Elemental Texture Series

The original concept for this unusual, highly textural series was created and begun in 1994. The elements are taken from 35mm slides of rock art existing throughout the Great Basin Area. This area is comprised of major sections of Arizona, California, Utah, Nevada, Oregon, Idaho, Colorado and Wyoming.

The image elements were individually photographed and drawn prior to a laborious image cutting process. These image elements are painted onto the canvas in a layering and superimposition technique as various layers of paint and texture are applied.

The texture and relief created by the image elements become the central visual force. Then surface images of other rock art are superimposed over them.

This is a series of approximately twenty paintings which the artist does not intend to re-create. Other textural series Huckeba has created are western cowboy life and North American wildlife images.
